Thanks and keep it up. Hopefully your example will motivate other members to do the same. We need 30 new members to get in the plus column. Club leaders need to set an example by bringing one in themselves and showing how easy it can be done and making a big deal of new members being installed by current or Past District Leaders. One idea is to reward sponsors by buying them a ticket to the Bowie Baysox Game June 14,2008 ,a few tickets are still available. All clubs should be having new officer elections and sending in the names to O.I. Please send in the Officer Election Reports as soon as possible. Clubs should be helping new officers who plan on coming to the next conference in O. C. , rooms are available I think still at the Carousel ,May 2,3 & 4th In Aug. 15-17,2008 , training and networking are for you at the MDSD District Convention in Dover, Del. at the Sheraton Hotel. All this information is available online at our District website www.mdsdoptimist.org . I want to thank all of you for all the work you do for kids and our communities, remember: " MDSD Optimist are Driven to Bring Out the Best in Children" Gov. Tom *********************************************************************************************************** Check this out - Hot off the presses! To date, we have recycled 16025.7 pounds of aluminum. We have sent $18939.50 to Optimist International Foundation for (1) the Optimist International Children’s Cancer Research Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, (2) the Optimist International Children’s Cancer Campaign generically, and (3) the Maryland-South Delaware District Children’s Cancer Campaign. In addition to the Severna Park Optimist Club, major contributors have been the Jacksonville OC and the Timonium OC. Many other clubs have made contributions and all are appreciated. We owe a special debt of gratitude to David Bowman of the Fort Smallwood Optimist Club for his efforts to collect and recycle from the several zones of our district, as well as his relationship to the owner of Maryland Recycle in agreeing to give us every penny that Maryland Recycle gets from the aluminum company for our aluminum. Jim Hubbard ******************************************************************************************************************* Optimist International Clubs and the Foundation have an opportunity to earn additional revenues through a new recycling program of toner and inkjet cartridges.
It is as easy as:
1. Free
recycling carton with bar-coded labels plus (free shipping) will be provided.
2. $l.00
(one dollar) will be donated to Optimist (50 cents to local club and 50 cents
to OI Foundation.)
3. To get
started, just call Coastal Inkject and Toner Recycling at
1-760-674-0858.
If every adult club would recycle 20 cartridges a month, we could
generate $500,000 for the Foundation and Optimist clubs.
It would be a big help to me, as your District Foundation Rep. if
every club could elect a Foundation Chairperson. We could meet at each
District Conference to discuss ways to promote the Foundation.
With membership declining, a greater burden is placed on all of us to
find means to support the programs financed by the OI Foundation.
If any member has any questions or needs further info, please call
Ernie Brown at 410-867-0649 or e-mail,
patern@comcast.net.
